Understanding Visa Requirements
Planning a trip to the vast landscapes of Namibia? Understanding the visa requirements is the crucial first step. While some travelers enjoy visa-free entry, many nationalities must obtain a visa, either in advance or upon arrival through the Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) or e-Visa systems.
Passport Validity
Generally, all visitors must have a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of entry, with a minimum of three blank pages for stamps. Travelers from visa-exempt countries (like many SADC nations, Russia, and Brazil) receive a Visitors’ Entry Permit (VEP) stamp upon arrival for stays up to 90 days.
Which countries requires a Visa
Due to a recent policy change based on diplomatic reciprocity (implemented around April 2025), citizens of several countries—including the US, UK, Canada, and many European nations—now require a visa. These travelers are typically eligible for a Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) at major ports of entry or an e-Visa applied for online before travel. Both usually permit a stay up to 90 days for tourism or short business visits. The required documents for both VoA and e-Visa applications generally include a completed form, passport copies, recent photos, proof of a return ticket, accommodation bookings or an invitation letter, and sufficient proof of funds.
Plan Ahead Before Travelling
It’s vital to check the latest requirements well before your departure, as the lists of visa-exempt and VoA-eligible countries are subject to change. If your visit is for employment, study, or any purpose other than tourism, you must apply for the appropriate permit through a Namibian embassy or the Ministry of Home Affairs before traveling, as VEP and tourist visas prohibit work. Additionally, a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory if you are arriving from a country with a high risk of transmission. Always confirm with the nearest Namibian embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date and specific guidance for your nationality.
